Lydia Wood of In a Nutshell Antiques takes us on the Ashburton Antiques Trail.
Ashburton has built a reputation over many years as a top destination for antiques and no visit to the town is complete without a browse around its antique shops. They perfectly compliment the town’s long and rich history and you’ll find a veritable Aladdin’s cave hidden within the old buildings.
Ashburton offers more than 10 individual antique shops combining some of the South West’s best dealers, making it simply unmissable for any collector or enthusiast. Its the perfect place to come if you’re looking for a unique gift for a special occasion or a memento to take home to remind you of your visit to this historic town. You’re sure to see something that catches your eye.
As you start to explore, you’ll find a wealth of traditional antiques ranging from Georgian and Victorian furniture to collectables, ceramics, silver, jewellery, mirrors and pictures. You’ll also find shops specialising in everything industrial, boutique and retro with other shops focusing on mid-century modern and fine art. We also have a stockist of Annie Sloan paint where you can pick up all the tips and tools for up-cycling your own pieces.
With such a variety to choose from the town has been attracting an ever increasing number of buyers from all over the UK and this has been helped by the successful launch of Ashburton Antiques Trail.
Now in its second year, this collaborative venture between the shops and the Chamber of Trade has been designed to showcase everything the antique shops have to offer while providing visitors with a guided map of the different shops in Ashburton, helping to cement its position as a top shopping destination.
You can pick up a trail from the Ashburton Information Centre or from the antique shops themselves.
